The Toyota Hilux: the pick-up that stands the test of time
Reputed to be one of the icons of pick-ups and even 4X4s, the Hilux has been present for generations. Designed to last like all its predecessors before, the latest generation Toyota Hilux also have solid materials. Yes, the interior of the Hilux must face the years! And this goal has not escaped Toyota all this time.
A 4.2-inch on-board computer and a 7-inch touchscreen on this Extracab SR model; for a functional and responsive multimedia system. A wealth of comfort and safety equipment, with a lot of driving pleasure. Apple Car Play and Android Auto, 6 speakers, the “Toyota Touch” audio system and a Bluetooth telephone system with voice recognition.
The driver and front passenger are pretty well off. The front seats are comfortable and above all the front cabin is spacious. The occupants of the rear seats only have booster seats.
The Hilux tipper provides a loading area of 2.35 m3 and is capable of supporting a payload of more than 1 tonne. A skip that can be fitted with roll bars, hard tops or drop sides.
Toyota Hilux Pickup 2.8L D-4D BVA6 – Power before comfort
After 1,000 kilometers at the wheel of the Toyota Hilux Xtra Cabin 2.8 l D-4D BVA6 Invincible on the road, paths and rough terrain, we give you our opinion on this restyled pick-up powered by a 4-cylinder 204 horsepower.
The tireless Hilux continues its career with a restyling in 2020 which was accompanied by the arrival of a second, more powerful engine. The 150 hp 2.4 liter 4-cylinder is now supported by a 2.8 liter, offering a power of 204 hp and a torque of 500 Nm. This block is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or, like the model tested , to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Hilux thus motorized is only offered in the Xtra Cabin crew cab version.
All models (except those with two-wheel drive) now have a payload of around one tonne and a towing capacity of 3.5 t. True to its scale chassis, the Hilux isn't the most comfortable of pick-ups, even though Toyota says it's softened the leaf-spring suspension. Driving precision benefits from a new electric power steering and the electronic management of the transmission evolves with a limited-slip differential lock in two-wheel drive mode. The idle speed is reduced from 850 to 650 rpm and the throttle response is refined, in order to improve control of the vehicle in crossing situations.
8 inch touch screen
In terms of style, the Hilux adopts a new, more massive and modern front face. The redesigned front and rear lights now incorporate LED technology on the high-end finishes. In the cabin, there are few changes except for a new larger touch screen (8 inches). The dashboard is modernized with a new central digital screen, but retains its needle counters. Note that the new high finish of the model tested, called Invincible, gives access to specific style elements, both outside and inside.
