To get the most out of your electric car, you have prepared the interior and the battery in the vehicle menu settings. Thanks to the "preconditioning" carried out during charging on your BMW Wallbox, the current from the home network is used to preheat the passenger compartment and the battery, without affecting the range. The day before, you connected your BMW 5 Series Sedan Plug-In Hybrid 530e to your Wallbox and you programmed the exact departure time at which you want to leave the next day to go to work. Thanks to the "preconditioning" carried out while recharging your Wallbox, the current from the domestic network is used to preheat the passenger compartment and the battery. Your vehicle is thus perfectly prepared for the road and you have a maximum range of more than 66 km. Why do runtimes vary?

The current range of an electric vehicle depends on various factors such as driving style, route conditions, vehicle equipment, weather conditions and payload.

In detail

High average speeds (such as on the highway) reduce range the most, while lower speed in city traffic and increased recuperation increase range (unlike combustion engine vehicles). In addition, the range decreases at low temperatures due to heating and at high temperatures due to air conditioning. As for optional equipment, choosing larger tire combinations usually also reduces range (if the aerodynamic disadvantage is not compensated by a more closed wheel design). The rolling resistance class of the tires is also important for the range, for example due to the use of a winter tire compared to a Label A summer tire.

Indications and general values ​​​​of autonomy in this indicator

The scope communicated in the model selection is based on the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Test Procedure) test cycle.

WLTP is used to calculate the range taking into account predefined driving conditions. WLTP evokes defensive driving with a mixture of urban, departmental and motorway roads.

The range indicator allows you to estimate the range in the driving conditions of your reality. The outer circle represents the range value calculated based on linear distances (not the actual road map), while the inner circle shows the calculated value -30% to account for actual distances.

What are the criteria for driving style settings?

The "sporty driving" mode assumes that you are only driving on the motorway, with an average speed of around 130 km/h and a dynamic overtaking style. The “economy driving style” position assumes defensive driving on country roads at an average speed of around 80 km/h. Intermediate settings give a mix of the two.

The Shy Tech concept puts the occupants center stage and allows technology to be put in the background until it is needed: an invisible intelligence that is found in very particular and unique details. This invisible intelligence is recognizable both outside and inside in many details: for example, the grille provides intelligent functions of state-of-the-art detection thanks to radar combined with camera technology. Similarly, the audio system speakers are almost invisible and the concept of control buttons has been optimized and reduced to a minimum in the passenger compartment.

Lounge seats in the rear seats.

By eliminating the central tunnel, the BMWiX offers generous space and a lounge atmosphere in the rear seats. The rear seats have optional seat heating and 3D speakers integrated in the head restraints. The backs of the rear seats can be split in one gear so that the luggage compartment can be enlarged.

Panoramic glass roof.

The Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof guarantees a feeling of open space and a relaxed lounge atmosphere. It can be electrochromatically shaded for more privacy and offers passengers even more headroom and a modern ambience thanks to the absence of a headlining.
